FANTASY CAMP LEAGUE GENERAL STRUCTURE

Hi all -

The Giants / A's Fantasy Camp Baseball League returns for its fourth season in 2004.  Beginning in 2001, a group of Giants Fantasy campers formed their own adult baseball league with three teams competing.  In 2002, we added an Oakland A's fantasy camp team to the league to bring it to an even four teams.  The league is operated solely by former campers and carries no affiliation with the San Francisco Giants, Oakland A's or either of their fantasy camps.  To involve as many campers as possible, the league chose several fields around the SF Bay Area to play at.

At this time, we are looking for full and part-time players to join us for the coming season.  We will be adding an A's team and more than likely, a fourth Giants team.  Full-time players will be entered in a player draft the last weekend in February while part-timers will participate as pool players on the weeks when they are available.

General Structure:

- Five or six teams of twelve players each (two A's and three or four Giants teams)
- 12 game schedule for each team
- No existing tournaments are affected (Bakersfield, Alameda, San Diego, Lodi, Tacoma, and Aptos)
- In most cases, play dates are every other weekend and we will NOT play on most holidays
- NEW for 2004 . . . wood bats are mandatory for all players except those 60 and over and any ladies; bats will be furnished to each team, but players are free to buy their own
- NEW for 2004 . . . no pitcher may pitch more than six innings in any game

Locations:

Last year we played at Riordan High School in San Francisco, Alameda College, San Leandro Ballpark, and Albert Park in San Rafael.  We will continue to play on some of these fields, but may add new venues this year.

Fees:

Full Season Player - They will pay a non-refundable $150 upfront (approximately $12.50 / game).  Your name will be placed in the player draft and you will be guaranteed a roster spot on one of the teams for the balance of the season.  Giants players will be drafted by a Giants team and A's players will be drafted by an A's team.  If you are planning to play at least eight of the twelve games, sign up as a full-time players.

Pool Player - They will pay $15 per game that they play in.  A pool player will call in their availability for a given week to the league and the league will try to fit them on to a team.  There is no guarantee a spot will be available, but we will do our best to accomodate you.

Pre-Season Draft:

Prior to the start of the season, those who have signed up to be full-time players will be entered into the draft.  Players will be broken into groups of three or four (depending on the number of teams fielded) based upon ability and positions they can play.  The team managers will be asked to select one player from each of the groups.

At the end of each season, teams are disbanded and redrafted the following season.

NOTE - We WILL NOT accommodate requests for players to be placed with specific friends on the same team.   We don't want the league to be comprised of cliques and feel everyone should enjoy the experience of playing with different people each season.  Minor exceptions will be made with respect to families, carpools, etc., but please understand our goal.

The Pool:

Those of you who cannot join us a regular basis are welcome to join the player pool.  An individual will be designated as the Pool Coordinator for the Giants and another will be the Pool Coordinator for the A's.  These people will advertise each scheduled game via email requesting available pool players.  Any part-time player who is available for that week's game should call or email the appropriate Pool Coordinator to let them know.  The Pool Coordinators will work with the team managers to determine the needs of each team every week and assign the proper pool players to the teams that need them.

Playing Rules:

These will be covered in detail later, but the essentials are that there are no pass balls, wild pitches, or stealing (if the pitcher goes from the stretch).  No new inning will start after two hours and 45 minutes.

What to do Next:

Full-timers have three things to do:

1)  Fill out the attached player waiver form which we are requiring from each player starting this year.

2)  Fill out the attached player emergency medical contact form.  This is optional, but strongly encouraged so we can help contact the right people in the event of an emergency.

3)  Send a check for $150, your pertinent contact info, your player waiver form, and your emergency medical contact form to:
