The 6th Annual "Rob Weber Desert Classic" Fantasy Baseball Tournament will be held on the weekend of May 16-18, 2014Our tournament hosts will again be Carl Cardinalli, Bob Ford, and Tony Lennon.  For the third consecutive year, we will be playing at Ted Hamilton Field on the College of the Desert campus (43-500 Monterey Avenue, Palm Desert, CA 92260).  The field is located within walking distance of the Palm Desert Street Fair and the Palm Desert Civic Center Park.

 

 

BASEBALL ROSTERS, SCHEDULE, RULES, AND DRIVING DIRECTIONS

The tournament will feature six (6) teams again this year.  The following camps have been invited to send teams:

  • A's

  • Dodgers

  • Giants / A's mix (3 squads)

  • Mariners

Each team will play one game a day for three days.  Those traveling the farthest will be given later games Friday and earlier games on Sunday.  To get all the games in on time, we will employ the following rules:

  • Games will be restricted to two hours and 30 minutes each (if an inning starts before the time limit, it can be completed)

  • Players will use wood bats (exceptions being ladies and players 60 years of age and older)

TOURNAMENT BANQUET

 

Our banquet will be on Saturday night, May 17th.  Once again, we will be returning to the memorable banquet site at the Canyons Steak House.  For those of you who have not seen the restaurant, go to the website at Bighorn Golf ResortClick on Five-Star Cuisine, and then click on the Canyons Steak House.   Cocktails will start at 6:00pm followed by dinner at 7:00pm The dinner will feature several dishes and desserts.  Dinner cost for players will be included in the tournament fee.  All extra dinners are $40 each.  Children 12 and under are $20 each.

 

Directions to the Steak House will be provided along with all of your other directions, but if you remember, the restaurant sits on private property.  You must pass through the gatehouse which sits just off Highway 74.  The officer at the gatehouse will let you know the directions to reach the restaurant.  Click here for a quick map of the property.

 

 

HOTELS AND GROUP CONDOS

Make your reservations before our block of rooms is sold out or April 15th, whichever comes first.  The $114 per night rate includes free Wi-Fi and free parking.  The hotel is located adjacent to "The River" entertainment complex which includes movie theatres, restaurants, a Starbucks, and many shops.

 

Another alternative is the Holiday Inn Express of Palm Desert which has rooms available in May from $82 to $115 per night.  We have not entered into an agreement with the hotel.  These are their standard rates.  Give them a call at 1-800-315-2621 or visit their web site at:

Group Condominiums

 

Group condominiums have been made available at the Ironwood Country Club located at 73-735 Irontree Drive in Palm Desert.  Each unit can accommodate 4-6 people and are available for $220 per night.  The condominiums are available through Ford Properties To reserve a unit, call (760) 346-9750 and mention 'Fantasy Baseball Group'

 

 

 

TOURNAMENT FEES AND SIGNUP

 

The goal is to keep the price low while making the experience memorable.  The baseball tournament fee will be $195 per player.  This fee gets you:

  • Three tournament games

  • Tournament banquet dinner

  • Tournament memento

GIANTS : Click here for the tournament signup form.  Send the form and payment to Bob Ford at the address on the form.  WCFBA are taking three teams or 39 players maximum.  Your deadline is Monday, April 14th.  NOTE :  If we don't get enough WCFBA players, we may subtract one team and invite another fantasy camp squad.

 

A'S, DODGERS, and MARINERS tournament coordinators : Click here for the team tournament signup form.  Email your players and ask that they send you the signup information (name, extra adult dinners, extra children's dinners, and payment with check made out to you).  Write each player's information on the team tournament signup form and mail with ONE check to Bob Ford at the address on the form.
