This was our final foray into the Swamp in San Francisco.  Windy outside the ballpark, but beautiful and sunny inside the unmarked foul lines.

Kansas City A's 5 New York Giants 2 in Game #1

Coach Ken Calloway blasted a 6th inning, three-run triple to back-up stalwart pitching efforts by Sil Krevocheza (6 IP/3K) and Mike Byron (3 IP/2K) and overcome Dave Chilcote’s 11K effort 5 to 2 in a well-played struggle in the Swamp.  Calloway had a single to go along with his big hit and Mike Byron went 3-3 with an RBI.  Macias and Ed Glover each chipped in two hits apiece while Mark Rowell, Mark Fitzpatrick, and Kevin Zimmerman each crashed singles.  The A’s clearly wanted this game and Sil Krevocheza kept slurvin’ the ball to the bewilderment of the New York Giants.

The New York boys got some good hitting from the bottom of the order with Greg Terra, Mike Marks, and Frank Weishaar making singles while George Parsons and the rejuvenated Randy Wallace each battled for two hits.  Bobby Hartkop and Terry “USOSEXY” Lee each hit singles and scored the only two runs.  Part of KC’s success could be attributed to the four straight walks that Chilly drew effectively taking the bat out of his hands.

San Jose Giants 6 Fresno Giants 2 in Game #2

The San Jose Giants remain undefeated once again behind the steady pitching of Heath Keller (6 IP/8K) and Mike Simon (3 IP).  The San Jose Giants made only five hits but they scored their runs on two hit by pitches (Weber & Bennett), a misplayed Infield Fly (Angie Simon), a walk (Wineberg), a sacrifice (Sanfillipo), and an error (Lueders) on Weber’s squibber down the first base line.

The SJ G’s got singles from old pro’s JR Riley, Moochy Hughey, Mike Simon, JC Penney, and Doug Rusch.  Steve Bennett reached base 4 times and made another of his patented spinning top catches off a deep fly to left field by Fresno’s Mike Miller.

Simply simply saying it wasn’t their day could sum up Fresno’s day.  Dr. Guy Peabody went 3-3 and scored the only two Fresno runs.  He also pitched through a scoreless 7th inning after which he confided that he didn’t have his best “command.”  Matt Schmuck had a single and a double driving in Peabody both times.  Matt was gunned down trying for a triple by the Bennett-Riley relay team.  Lorne Johnson, Cliff Gray, and Jim Realini chipped in singles along the way.  Realini embarrassed himself with some Ruben Rivera base running escapades getting thrown out for turning the wrong way after singling to right and then forgetting the count and getting thrown out “stealing” second.  Jim has reviewed MLB Rule Section 7.00 “The Runner” and is ready for next week.  Mike Miller crushed a double in the first that nearly scored Peabody who tripped on the downhill side of third base and then blasted two long fly balls to left field that clearly would have been homers at Riordan or Wilcox but today were just outs caught by Steve Bennett.  One bright spot for the Fresno team is the emergence of Mark Bruzzone as a hard throwing pitcher.  I’ve caught just about everybody in the league for three years now and Mark is the hardest thrower right now.  When he gets control of that nasty sinking, knuckle, slider he will be mowing us down.

Next games are at WILCOX High School, Santa Clara on June 12th TRIPLE HEADER

Reminder to all regular players, do not forget to tell your coach by Thursday morning, before NOON if you are going to play or you will stand a good chance of losing your spot on the team for the weekend to a pool player.
