San Francisco Giants 14 Kansas City A's 11 in Game #1

The SF Giants continued their winning ways in somewhat typical fashion spotting the A’s 4 runs in the first, then scoring methodically for a 14-6 lead after eight, just in time to let the A’s battle back for 5 runs in the ninth to make it interesting… (That’s Coach DaCosta’s take on things)  I understand that The Count walloped a four for four day with “DJ” Desjardins going 3-5.  DJ started the pitching and G-man Gemello did well in the final three overcoming countless muffs by the supporting cast.

According to the A’s:….”Well, you don't win championships in April.  While the result of Sunday's game wasn't ideal, there are always silver linings.  Sil Krevocheza (despite a compressed ulnar nerve that will require surgery) registered a couple of hits, and now has a batting average above Oh-fer.  Seems Sil's stroke wasn't awakened until he started doing his best impression of Ma Kettle following his throw from SS to 1st.  Hey, whatever works!  Pat Macias' season average fell 80 points with a 2-4 day.  C'mon,  Pat!!!  Where's the effort???  Ed Glover was smacking the ball around pretty good, tallying 2 hits and plenty of line drive fouls.  Welcome back Dave "my feet are moving, but I'm not getting anywhere" Gayner, who responded with 3 rbi's and a blast off the fence in right. (see next weeks games, watch out for him and his “new” bat!!)

San Jose Giants 12 Oakland A's 4 in Game #2

This was a classic matchup between the Giants and their rivals from across the bay, the Athletics.  It was eerily quiet as the first pitch was thrown, and that's how the game would play out through the first three and a half innings of play. Dave Jemes of the A's handling the Giants, and Heath Keller of the Giants handling the A's.

The Athletics finally pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth.  That seemed all the A's would need with Jemes pitching a great contest, but a single from Steve Bennett to lead off the top of the fifth would spark the boys from San Jose.  Dennis Sanfilippo would push two runs across the plate with a 2 RBI double.  The Giants were back in the game.

Little did the Athletics know, but they had scored their last runs.  Keller held ground in the fifth and the Giants would push across two more runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.  Bill Wineberg and John Riley would both walk to lead off the inning and scored on a 2-RBI single to right by Mike Simon.  Tom Sanfilippo pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh.  The Giants walked away with a 5 spot in the eighth with big hits from Tom Sanfilippo, Bennett and Michael Hughey.  The Giants added three more runs in the ninth on another 2-RBI hit from Simon giving him 4 RBI's in the game.  Michael Simon wrapped up the game on the mound in the eighth and ninth.

Reminder to all regular players, do not forget to tell your coach by Thursday morning, before NOON if you are going to play or you will stand a good chance of losing your spot on the team for the weekend to a pool player.
